Revell at the marvel of Airfix
Some of you will have noticed the clever title there, as although Airfix started it all, back in the late 1930’s, Revell has really taken over as the Premiere model maker in my eyes. The kits are better for startes. But why am I talking about plane model kits?
Well, part of it is because of a certain Mr.May’s TV show, and I have to agree with him that model kits are great. But why are they so great? As a bunch of teenagers proved on his show they require dedication, skill, committment, patience, the ability not to get mad and throw the thing when it doesn’t glue properly or you mispaint something.
But they are all skills that are required later in life. You need to deal with failure inevitably at some stage in your life, so the small failure or something falling off your prefectly glued model, or painting something black instead of blue is a good start.
Dedication and committment are good traits as well. Sticking at something long enough to complete a goal, not getting bored and wanting to do something else. Very important qualities to possess in later life and model making gives you them in abundance as you glue your fingers together holding onto two bits of plastic urging it to stick together.
Patience, it is a virtue and something that not many people have nowadays. Model making provided me with my abundant supply having to hold bits together for what seemed like hours, and trying and retrying and retrying when it kept falling apart :D
So all this doom and gloom, is it all worth the time spent hunched around a table, with plastic, paint, glue and papers everywhere that take ages to pack away and clean up after, you tell me. Here’s one I made earlier :D:P

That is a B-1 Lancer. As you can see it fills a dining table quite easily. It took me all of my Christmas and New Year holiday to build, and was a very challenging model to complete. The sense of achievement though after finishing it, looking at it standing on it’s own wheels without assistance, not falling over, was incredible. All that hard work and you can see the reward right in front of you. The pride that comes from that achievement is equally as important as all the learning you make from the mistakes, overcoming the adversity to complete it. So come on people, get yourself an Airfix or Revell kit over Christmas, they do all sorts, planes, trains, automobiles, you name it, even Space stations and warships. You’ll enjoy it honest :D:D:D
DotD today, not got one as it’s been a surprisingly good day:D And it is only going to get better, tune in tomorrow to see if I saw the Mackenzie Poltergeist :P
